On September 22, 2002, Darkstone Kennel had only our second litter of puppies. The five littermates were a product of a breeding between Rueger and our own Peanut. As we will only do a select few breedings, and each one has to be something special, along with Sheryl Kipp (Peanut's co-owner and "Mom"), we did a huge amount of research prior to picking out a U.S.-based stud dog for Peanut. We had a very clear understanding of the strengths of Peanut's bloodlines, and what she would potentially throw into her puppies, and were looking for a stud that was proven to double up on the strengths we knew we had, and address any weaknesses.
After looking at many studs, and after much deliberation, when we finally selected Rueger as a stud for this litter, we knew what we would be getting. Rueger is an AKC "gold producer," and has been proven to throw his top line, size, and head type very consistently. He is also recognized for his temperament and the health of his bloodlines. We knew that Peanut would throw her strong rear end, movement, and great head type, so we felt the combination would be very strong. We were right, and the five puppies were all beautiful.
The consistency of the puppies was remarkable, with only subtle differences between them. Three of the puppies finished their Canadian Championships before they were one year of age, with some significant wins. Jade also went on to achieve her American Championship!
