We were very fortunate to acquire Caesar in Oct. of 2003 from Anthony Carfagna of Carfagna's Cane Corsos. Anthony's personal situation required that he could no longer devote the time to his dogs that he felt they deserved, and though a very difficult decision for him, he made the choice to place them with us. For that, we are grateful. We very sadly lost our "big man" in late 2010, when he was nearly ten years of age. He was a powerful and moving presence in our home, and we will never be able to adequately fill the void he left behind. His legacy will be felt in our home and our breeding program for many years.
At the time we received Caesar, he was not quite 3 years of age, and already one of the most beautiful and accomplished Cane Corso's in
North America. We had seen Caesar at the ICCF/CCAA nationals the previous two years, and had quite honestly felt that he was one of top Cane Corsos in
North America. What struck us was not only his physical presence, mass, and conformation to standard, but his wonderful personality. Caesar was fearless yet completely outgoing and friendly. He had one of the most stable and wonderful temperaments we have ever seen in the breed. He was outgoing and non-aggressive to other dogs, as well as humans....unless the situation calls for his vigilance. Caesar demonstrated these character traits in spades, which made him the perfect dog to handle, and be highly trained for "Personal Protection."
We always felt that Caesar offered much to the Cane Corso breed that few current males in
North America can offer. His movement and structure were very hard to find fault with, which is rare in a true 140 pound Cane Corso. Caesar was one of the most accomplished Cane Corso in
North America, and is highlighted on the "famous Cane Corso" page of the CCAA web site. Caesar held ICCF/CCAA, ARBA, IABCA, and a Canadian Championship with the rare breed club of
Southwest Ontario, and was our first Cane Corso to achieve the title of "Grand Champion" with the CCAA. Caesar also had significant training in "Personal Protection," and was the first Cane Corso in the
USA to achieve a high finish and be titled at Dave Putmans "Iron Dog" competition.
We will miss Caesar every day, and feel blessed to have had a Cane Corso of his qualities find his way into our home, and into our breeding program, very early in our relationship with the Cane Corso breed. We will continue to take pride in and enjoy the offspring that his heirs produce for Darkstone Kennel.
